Making Your Inventory Turn Work for You… Not Against You
Tuesday, July 26th, 11:00 a.m.
Ed started in the retail business as a salesperson while attending college. During his 21 years of retail experience, Ed served in virtually every role in the dealership and ended his retail career as a GM/Partner of two dealerships. During those 21 years, Ed also owned an independent used car operation with BHPH, Service and Parts and owned and managed a four-man wholesale operation that was engaged in dealer to dealer wholesaling as well as importing and exporting vehicles into, and out of the United States.
After his retail career, Ed worked with one of the oldest and most successful Used Car consulting companies in America. This experience launched him into a new career at Sonic Automotive, Inc. Sonic is one of the largest automotive consolidators in the country. During his eight and half year tenure with Sonic, and because of his unique skill set, Ed served in the following capacities: National Used Vehicle Director, National Sales Director, Senior Regional Vice President-Northern California, Senior Vice President-Staff Operations, Senior Regional Vice President-Houston, Director of Special Projects and Vice President of Used Vehicle Sales.
In the role of Senior Vice President of Staff Operations, Ed had oversight of seven National Departments, one of which was Subprime and BHPH Operations and was separate and distinct from the regular National Used Vehicle department. This department was responsible for cultivating and growing Used Vehicle sales through five Regional Finance Offices that serviced designated dealerships in each respective region. The BHPH business flourished and as Subprime became mainstream operations at the dealership level, Sonic sold the BHPH business to free up capital for continued growth in purchasing dealerships. In this role, Ed also had oversight of Sonic’s Fixed Operations nationally.
Ed is credited with co-creating Sonic Automotive’s “Dealer Academy”, for which he is responsible for writing much of the curriculum for the first graduating class. He also created an industry first in Sonic University, which was responsible for providing training to all dealership level roles, in both live training format as well as distance learning.
Following his successful tenure at Sonic, Ed went on to NCM Associates to rewrite their Used Car Bootcamp and training program. He also conducted and trained other associates to hold these Bootcamps and In-House Used Vehicle Management programs. During this time with NCM, Ed was a regular contributor to Ward’s Dealer Business magazine.
Ed went on to hold senior positions with Asbury Automotive (National Director of Pre-Owned Sales), Van Tuyl Group (Regional Director of Used Vehicle Sales), and Berkshire Hathaway Automotive (Executive Manager/G.M. Gwinnett Place Ford-Lincoln).
Ed’s final role in the dealership world was General Manager and Fixed Operations Director of a very large independent used car operation that was in the initial phases of adding New Car Franchises to its seven Used Car locations.
Because of his extensive retail and training background, Ed is uniquely qualified to deliver retail and wholesale process improvement training and expertise to any type of situation.
